Organization Settings

Within the Admin Portal, administrators have the ability to set default settings for users at their organization. Note that users that have created a Web of Science account have the ability to set personal preferences that will override the organization settings.

Requesting administration rights

Request access by contacting Web of Science Entitlements at agentitlements@clarivate.com or contacting your Sales Manager or Customer Success manager. Requests will require approval, and are granted separately from usage access rights.

Settings options

The options which can currently be configured include:

Default language: note that browser settings may override this setting in some cases

Default search page: this is the first page users will see when they navigate to webofscience.com

Smart search results type: semantic search provides context-aware flexibility, whereas boolean provides precision

Database to search: default database for Advanced Search

Number of search fields: rows shown by default in Advanced Search

Result sort order: default result order for Advanced Searches

Institution logo: Logos can be linked and shown above the Web of Science header and footer

Using Web of Science Defaults

If you chose this option, all existing organization preferences will be deleted. Individual user preferences will not be affected.

Logo Locations

The primary and secondary logos are displayed in the footer of the page, adjacent to your organization name. If you wish to change the organization name, please contact our support team. The header logo is displayed at the top of the page.

Organization preference groups

Some organization structures require multiple preference setups. This is most often true for consortia or organizations with multiple campuses, which may want to display unique co-branding logos in the Web of Science. To support this requirement, organization preference groups can be created. The Web of Science will honor preferences depending on the user's campus.

Not all organizations have an access configuration that is compatible with multiple preference groups. For more details, or to request a new organization preference group, reach out to our support or entitlements team.

Preference hierarchy

Preferences are applied at the most granular level set.

  1. Individual user preferences (registered and signed-in users only)
  2. Preference group defaults (if applicable)
  3. Organization defaults
  4. Web of Science defaults

A signed-in user will not be affected by changes to an organization's defaults if the setting applies at both levels. For example, if an organization changes their default search to the 'Advanced Search' option, signed-in users will be unaffected. Individual's can set their own default search preference on the user settings page (https://www.webofscience.com/wos/my/settings/general).
