Exact Search

Exact Search is turned off by default so any search you perform will use stemming and lemmatization to expand your search just as it does when you perform a Fielded Search. For example, if you type mouse in the search field, Web of Science will return results that contain the words mouse and mice.

When Exact search is turned on, your search is limited to the exact term you type in the search field. So, if you search mouse, the search only returns records that include the word mouse.

Note: To perform an exact search on a phrase, place the phrase between quotation marks

Field Tags

Advanced Search Query Builder will let you use "field tags" to define which discrete fields you would like to search. You can see the list of field tags for the collection you are searching by clicking "View field tags" below the query display box.

When using field tags, you will need to use Boolean logic and parenthesis to manage your search logic. If do not use parenthesis to next your search terms correctly, you search may return and error message.

Combining Search Sets

Each search query you build is saved as a set under Session Queries on the Query Builder page. Sets are identified by numbers, and the most recent sets appear at the top of the list.
