What is changing with ORCiD connection?
Answer: Previously, ORCiD was connected separately for login and profile sync. With this change, both are combined into one streamlined authentication, where you grant all permissions in a single step to avoid multiple authentication steps in different workflows.

Why am I being asked to reconnect my ORCiD account?
Answer: We have improved our ORCiD integration to offer a simpler, unified connection process. To keep profiles in sync and continue signing in via ORCiD, you’ll need to re-authenticate your account at ORCiD.

How do I know if I need to reconnect my ORCiD account?
Answer: If re-authentication is required for your profile, you’ll see clear prompts in the following places:
- An email sent as a reminder (if applicable)
- A notification pop up on your profile page as a prompt to reconnect
- 'ORCID Sync' under Edit profile page in your profile
- Connected accounts under Account settings page if just need to grant other permissions
These prompts will appear for you to act on it but ignore if you have already done.

What are the steps to get reconnected if I am signing in using ORCiD?
Answer:
- Go to Web of Science Sign in page
- Click on ORCiD icon
- On the ORCiD web page opened, provide your ORCiD credentials.

Once you are logged into ORCiD authorize access for the permissions requested.

What are the steps to get reconnected to ORCiD, if I am signing in using my personal email?
Answer:
- Sign in to Web of Science
- Go to Account settings page through the ‘Settings’ link under your name at the top right corner of the home page
- Go to Connected Accounts
- Reassess your connection to under the ‘ORCiD’
- Once you are logged into ORCiD authorize access for the permissions requested.
- Sign in to Web of Science

What happens if I don’t reconnect?
Answer: You’ll still be able to access your Web of Science account, but your ORCiD profile will stop syncing with Web of Science after the 60-day grace period. Previously synced data will remain, but no new works will be imported or exported.

Will I lose any data if I don’t act on this?
Answer: No. Your existing data remains safe and intact. However, automatic syncing with your ORCiD profile will pause unless you re-authenticate.

How do I reconnect my ORCiD account?
Answer: You’ll see a prompt while logging in asking you to reconnect your ORCiD. Simply click the button, and you’ll be redirected to ORCiD to grant permission. After that, you’ll return to your Web of Science as usual.

What permissions am I granted?
Answer: These are the same permissions as before — just granted all at once. You’re authorizing Web of Science to:
1. Use ORCiD as a social login
2. Access and read your profile
3. Add or update your work on both profiles -
I’m having trouble re-authenticating — what should I do?
Answer: If you encounter any issues, feel free to contact our support team here and we’ll help you get reconnected.

When is the deadline to act?
Answer: The new ORCiD flow launched on 25th September 2025, and you’ll have 60 days from that date to re-authenticate. We recommend doing it as soon as you see the prompt to avoid any disruption.
I don’t use ORCiD to log in — does this affect me?
Answer: If you’ve never connected ORCiD to your account, this change won’t affect your login. However, you can connect ORCiD at any time from your Account Settings to benefit from profile syncing.
