A brief summary or description of the essential content from the source document.

Foreign Title

A non-English title of an article.

Title

The English title of the article. If the title has been translated from a foreign title, then the title will appear within square brackets.

The author(s) of the article. 

Group Author(s)

The name of the research groups, organizations or institutions that authored the document. 

Book Author(s)

The names of one or more book authors.

Book Group Author(s)

The name of one or more book group (or corporate) authors.

Book Series: Book Series Subtitle

The name of the series that the book was issued along with volume number or other sequential designation.

Edited by

The name of one or more editors of a source publication. Note that a group (corporate) author can also be an editor.

Journal Impact Factor: Journal Citation Reports®

The Journal Impact Factor is defined as all citations to the journal in the current JCR year to items published in the previous two years, divided by the total number of scholarly items (these comprise articles, reviews, and proceedings papers) published in the journal in the previous two years.

Though not a strict mathematical average, the Journal Impact Factor provides a functional approximation of the mean citation rate per citable item. A Journal Impact Factor of 1.0 means that, on average, the articles published one or two years ago have been cited one time. A Journal Impact Factor of 2.5 means that, on average, the articles published one or two years ago have been cited two and a half times. The citing works may be articles published in the same journal. However, most citing works are from different journals, proceedings, or books indexed in Web of Science Core Collection.

Journal Citation Indicator: Journal Citation Reports®

The Journal Citation Indicator (JCI) is based on the mean category normalized citation impact (CNCI) for the journal. CNCIs are calculated at the document level and are based on citations from all documents in the three previous years and the JCR Year to articles and reviews published in the previous three years. The JCI is normalized for document type, publication year, and category. The average JCI for any category is 1. A JCI of 2 indicates that a journal is receiving twice the expected number of citations for the average journal in the category. A JCI of 0.5 indicates a journal is receiving half the expected number of citations for the average journal in the category. As citations distributions are skewed towards larger numbers of papers with fewer citations, the majority of journals in a category may have a JCI < 1.

Taxonomic Data

  • Super Taxa: High-level Taxonomic terms that refer to broad categories of organisms. Super Taxa are presented in order from lowest level Taxa to highest.
  • Taxa Notes: Common names of broad groups of organisms and microorganisms discussed in the source document by the author.
  • Organism Classifier: Represents the organism classifier and the corresponding Biosystematic Code for an organism discussed in the source document by the author. The code may be followed by an asterisk (*), which is used to indicate the reporting of a new Taxon within the source document. In some instances, the asterisk may be replaced with -NEW.
  • *Organism Name: contains the name of an organism as given by the author(s) in the source document.
  • *Variant: variant name for the organism. The variant may be a corrected spelling (from the author) or another common or species name.
  • *Details: Other information such as gender of the organism, its developmental stage, and its role. It may also contain a fossil indicator and whether the organism is a new Taxon and its type.

Chemical Data

For records published from 1969 to 1992, the Chemical Data table may contain two columns that display a Chemical Name. If your subscription includes archived records (1926 to 1968), then the Chemical Data table may also display the Chemical Name.

For records published from 1993 to the present, the Chemical Data table may contain the following information.

  • Chemical Name: Contains the name of a chemical or biochemical that is described in the source document. The terms used in Chemical Name are taken directly from the source document and reflect the usage of the author(s).
  • Chemical Variant: Contains a variant of the term given in the Chemical Name.
  • CAS registry Number:  Contains the Chemical Abstracts Registry Number for the chemical name
  • Drug Modifier: Contains terms used to define high-level categories of therapeutic actions of the Chemical Name as discussed in the source document.
  • Enzyme Commission: Gives the Enzyme Commission number for the chemical named in Chemical Name. Enzyme Commission terms always begin with EC and are composed of numbers and periods.
  • Chemical Detail: Contains additional terms used to describe details of the discussion of the chemical in Chemical Name from the source document including the role of the chemical and the processes in which it is involved.

Disease Data

  • Term: The name of a plant, animal, human disease, disorder, or pathological condition as discussed in the source document.
  • Variant: A variant name used to describe the disease term.
  • MeSH Term: The National Library of Medicine's Medical Subject Heading term(s) for the disease term. The MeSH term is followed by the MeSH designation in parentheses.
  • Disease Affiliation: Terms to define common disease affiliations in order to provide a consistent search key.
  • Details: Other explanatory details concerning the disease term as discussed in the source document by the author.

Gene Name Data

This table may contain the following information.

  • Term: The name of a plant, animal, human disease, disorder, or pathological condition as discussed in the source document by the author. Gene Name Term also contains the organism classifier within square brackets following the gene name term. The name or classifier can be searched individually.

Language

The selected language of the source document.

Accession Number

The accession number is a unique identifying number associated with each record in the product. It consists of a product identification code, a product year, and a unique item number.

PMID

PubMed ID. This field is available only in records of documents that have a PubMed ID.

ISBN

The International Standard Book Number is a unique machine-readable identifier that marks a book unmistakably.

The format is a 10-digit number that contains 3 hyphens (-). The last digit is a check character, which may be a number or an X. The position of the hyphens can vary for each ISBN identifier. Example: 978-0-387-36949-5

ISSN

The International Standard Serial Number is a unique eight-digit number that identifies periodical publications such as journals and electronic publications. If a journal has a print ISSN, then that number displays in this field. The format is four numbers, a hyphen (-), three numbers, and then a check character that may be a number or X. Example: 1367-4803

eISSN

The Electronic International Standard Serial Number is a unique eight-digit number that identifies periodical publications such as journals and electronic publications. If a journal has an electronic ISSN, then that number display in this field. The format is four numbers, a hyphen (-), three numbers, and then a check character that may be a number or X. Example: 1367-4803

Geographic Data

This table may contain the following information.

  • Term: A geographic term that describes a location or place pertaining to the research as used in the source document by the author.
  • Variant: A variant name for the geographic term.
